Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival to Bariloche

We meet you at the airport of Bariloche, an important town of the Argentinean south. Bariloche is an international tourist destination, known for its breathtaking landscapes, outdoor activities, ski slopes, lakes and famous for its chocolate. You might choose to shop for souvenirs on the well-known Mitre street and enjoy the local cuisine having a parrilla (grilled meat over wood fire). Night in hotel.

Day 2: Bariloche to Pampa Linda, hike to Vuriloche Pass

We drive from Bariloche to Pampa Linda, the base of Mt. Tronador which means “thunder mountain” as you will hear. This is a significant mountain in northern Patagonia, with an eternal glacier on top and a very distinct shape. From Pampa Linda we hike up to Paso Vuriloche. The Vuriloche Pass has an interesting history as it was the mountain pass originally used by the European missions coming into Bariloche from the Pacific Ocean. The hike is 10 km, gaining 600 meters and descending 150 meters. We camp at Mallin Chileno. Night in tent.

  • Tronador Bariloche Patagonia

Day 3: Hike up to Refugio Viejo on Mt. Tronador and to Huenchu Pan camp

We leave our backpacks in camp and hike to Refugio Viejo. This mountain hut is on the front of glacier of Mt. Tronador and we can enjoy the views and touch the ice. Then we return to Mallin Chileno camp to get our backpacks and hike about 4 km to Huenchu Pam camp. Night in camp.

Day 4: Hike from Huenchu Pan to La Junta hot springs

We continue hiking along the green valleys covered by pristine forests, crossing rivers and creeks. We pass by a family house in the middle of nowhere and continue hiking until we get to the hot springs, La Junta. This is a 14 km hike descending 700 meters.

Day 5: Hot springs La Junta

It is such a natural paradise that we stay one day there to relax at hot springs and recover for the last section of the hike. There are a few houses that belong to the Velasquez family. Night in tent.

Day 6: Hike from La Junta to Pampa de los Palos

We will continue hiking west and then turn into a valley that takes us south to an open field before Los Palos Lagoon. There, we will set camp to spend the night. Night in tent.

Day 7: Pampa de los Palos to Pampa Rio Esperanza

We will walk passed by Los Palos Lagoon, continue south on the trail following Quitacalzones river. Later turn north into River Esperanza valley until we arrive to another open field to set our next camp for the night.

Day 8: Trekking from Pampa Rio Esperanza to Ralun. Night in Puerto Varas.

From our last camp, we continue to Laguna Cayutué, border it by the south bank and arrive to Ralun. This is the most north and east fjord, strategic point on the Reloncavi Estuary where the Pacific Ocean and the Andes Mountains meet. From here, a private transfer will take us to Puerto Varas to spend the night in a nice hotel.

Day 9: Drive from Puerto Varas to Bariloche.

We will enjoy a pleasant five hour drive back to Argentina across Paso Puyehue, admiring the views of green fields, volcanoes and forests. Night in hotel in Bariloche.

  • Andes Crossing Tronador Patagonia

Day 10: Extra day

In case of bad weather or any circumstance that alters the program.

  • Volcan Osorno Chile Patagonia

Day 11: Drive to Bariloche airport. Flight back home.

After breakfast we take a short drive to the airport and say farewell.

We will have followed the steps of the mythical route that goes through the Patagonian Andean lakes connecting Argentina and Chile. This path was used by the native peoples –Huilliches and Mapuches- more than four centuries ago.
