Ski in Cerro Lopez

Would you like to climb and ski down the one of the most impressive mountains outside Bariloche? Cerro Lopez is your best choice. Cerro Lopez looks like the king of mountains looking from the mountain range. So, when you climb Lopez, you can see the geography of the region, the immensity of the fresh blue water, Volcanoes and all the other well-known mountains in area like Tronador.

DAY PLAN: We start early in the morning. We drive to Arroyo Lopez (stream). We go up inside an amazing tall Coihues and cypresses forest. Reaching the snow, we put on the climbing skins and continue to the top to the central Summit. Another option is to take a left before reaching the second hut and go up the Filo de las Cabras, (the goat’s ridge). The views of the lakes and the turns on the way down are unforgettable. We can go up again and chose to draw down a different line.

Chall–Huaco Mountain

From Bariloche we take a southeast 4WD road up to and into the Lenga (Southern beech) forest. Once we reach the “ex- Neumeyer mountain hut, we put on the climbing skins on the skis and start the climb to the top of Chall- Huaco. The first part of the climb, we go inside the forest of tall Lengas and gradually, this beautiful trees become smaller and bush looking. Eventually, we exit the vegetation zone and start having an amazing view.  We make stops to drink water, have snacks and adjust layers of clothes. Once we reach the summit of Chall Huaco we will be able to see over the ridge Cerro Blanco among other elegant mountians. There, we pull off the skins, lock the bindings and enjoy a great ride back down to the truck.
