  • Bariloche surroundings: Cerro López, Piedras Blanca, Cerro la Ventana, Colonia Granito, Nueva Colonia, Piedras Blanca, Laguna el Trébol, Morenito, Moren-huapi, all different sectors.

Trip Info

North Patagonia offers fantastic places to go rock climbing. The area is privileged with extremely different types of rock, outstanding volcanic formations and clean granite spires scattered around. We design programs that give rock climbers the chance to taste a bit of every best type of climbing in the area.

  • Skill level: Beginner, intermediate or advanced.
  • Season: Mid September to early May
  • Possible lengths: Half day, full day, 1 to 10 days
  • Climber/guide ratio: 2:1
  • Group size: 1 to 10
  • Prerequisites: outdoor sports experience recommended.


Day 1: Arrival to Bariloche or Esquel airport.

We meet you at either airport. From Bariloche, it’s a five or six hour drive. From Esquel it takes two hours to get to Piedra Parada. The place is amazing.

Day 2-3-4: Climbing in Piedra Parada

Day 5: Drive back to Bariloche.

The road takes you through such landscapes, the yellow steppe, the green valleys, the glaciers in the distance. It’s a very enjoyable five to six hour drive through El Bolson. Hotel in Bariloche.

Day 6: Wake up in the beautiful town of Bariloche, build on the shore of Nahuel Huapi Lake.

Afternoon climbing in Bariloche surroundings 15 to 25 mts long and are graded 5+ to 8a/b French scale and projects (5.9 to 5.13) and prepare for the next hike.

Day 7: From Cerro Catedral base ski resort

a 4-5 hour hike to Refugio Frey or we can take the ski lift and walk 2 hours on the ridges to get there. Climbing in Frey, the Granite climbing paradise. Mostly traditional climbing with some bolts and grades from 4 th to 7b French grade (5.7 to 5.12). Climbs are 3 or 4 pitches in average, some longer ones of 6 to 8 pitches can be found too.

Day 8-9: There are about 200 traditional and sport routes

to enjoy on the different spires such as Aguja Frey, Piramidal, Aguja Principal, Campanile, Cohete Lunar, M2, El tonto, El Abuelo, etc. After climbing all day we can go for a dip in Laguna Toncek to cool off.  Then, we’ll head to the hut, Refugio Frey, which offers very good pizza and wine.

Day 10: Hike down to Bariloche

Day 11: Flight back home
